What Is Sokha Nektar About?
ទឹកឃ្មុំធម៌ជាតិ
We Are Phnom Penh's Honey Hub — Where the Forest Meets the City
No factories. No shortcuts. No imported blends. Just pure, wild Cambodian honey brought straight from the forest to your door.
The Problem We Set Out to Solve
Walk into any supermarket or scroll through any online shop in Phnom Penh, and you'll find shelves stacked with "honey." Golden. Shiny. Perfectly clear. But here's the uncomfortable truth: much of it isn't really honey anymore.
Mass-produced honey is heated to high temperatures to prevent crystallization and extend shelf life. It's micro-filtered until every trace of pollen — the very thing that makes honey a health food — is stripped away. Worse, imported honey is often blended, diluted with sugar syrups, and passed off as "pure." What you're left with is a sweet liquid with none of the living goodness nature intended.
We looked at this and asked a simple question: Why can't people in Phnom Penh access the real thing?
Cambodia produces some of the world's most extraordinary honey. Wild honey from the Mondulkiri forests. Golden nectar from the Mekong floodplains. Dark, complex honey from the Cardamom rainforest. It's harvested by indigenous communities using methods passed down through generations. It's raw. It's alive. And almost none of it was reaching the capital in a form people could trust.
Sokha Nektar was built to change that.
Our Role: The Central Hub
We are not a factory. We are not a mass-production bottling plant. We are the central hub — the bridge between Cambodia's most remote forests and your kitchen table.
Here's how that works: what we do
Travel directly to forest communities and beekeepers
Test and verify every batch for purity and moisture
Bottle by hand in small batches in Phnom Penh and the local region
Label every jar with its exact origin and harvest date
Deliver fresh, raw honey within hours of ordering
What We Never Do
Buy from middlemen who can't verify origin
Blend honey from different sources to cut costs
Bottle by hand in small batches in Phnom Penh
Import foreign honey and label it as Cambodian
Let honey sit in warehouses for months
This is not the cheapest way to run a honey business. It's not the easiest way either. But it's the only way that guarantees what ends up in your jar is exactly what the bees made — nothing more, nothing less.
What Makes Cambodian Honey So Special?
Cambodia's honey is a reflection of its landscapes — and those landscapes are breathtakingly diverse.
In Mondulkiri, giant honeybees build their nests high in the canopy of protected wildlife sanctuaries. The indigenous Bunong people harvest their wild honey using traditional methods, and in 2021 it became Cambodia's first honey to receive Geographical Indication (GI) status . This is honey with intensity, depth, and a medicinal character prized for centuries.
In Preah Vihear and Stung Treng, bees forage on floodplain forests along the Mekong, producing honey of brilliant golden color and smooth, floral sweetness. Some communities even produce a rare ruby-red honey — light in aroma, stunning in appearance .
In the Cardamom Mountains of Koh Kong, Cambodia's largest and most pristine rainforest, wild bees create a dark, complex honey with a distinctive bittersweet finish. It's the most adventurous honey in the Kingdom, carrying the wild soul of the rainforest in every drop.
These honeys are not interchangeable. Each is a taste of a specific place, a specific season, a specific community. And each deserves to be experienced in its purest form.
Quality Guaranteed — No Mass Production, Ever
When we say "quality guaranteed," we mean something very specific. It's not a marketing slogan. It's a checklist we apply to every single batch:
Origin verified: We know exactly which community, which forest, and which harvest produced your honey
Purity tested: We ensure optimal moisture levels (19–21%) to prevent fermentation while keeping the honey raw
Raw and unfiltered: No heat treatment. No micro-filtration. The pollen, propolis, and enzymes remain intact
Sustainably harvested: We only work with communities that use the "80% method" — taking most of the honey but leaving enough for the bees to thrive
No blending: One jar, one origin. Always
Mass production is designed to make every jar taste the same, look the same, and last forever on a shelf. Real honey doesn't work like that. Real honey varies. It crystallizes. It carries the fingerprint of its flowers. That's not a defect — it's proof that what you're eating is alive.
The Sokha Nektar Promise
Our name is our promise.
Sokha (សុខា) means health and well-being in Khmer. Nektar is the pure essence of a flower — the golden substance that bees transform into honey. Together, they represent what we stand for: honey that nourishes your body, supports your health, and connects you to the forests and communities of Cambodia.
When you buy from Sokha Nektar, you are not just buying a jar of honey. You are:
Tasting a specific corner of Cambodia — a forest, an orchard, a mountainside
Supporting indigenous harvesters and rural beekeeping communities
Choosing a genuine health food over a processed industrial product
Helping protect Cambodia's forests by making them economically valuable alive
